Thanks folks! I knew this would be a great place to find out more about tea. We have Earl Grey tea here. Do you think it is the same all over the world?

Is Yorkshire tea better than Earl Grey? How is it different?

Boiling fresh water, no problem. (We use filtered rain water for drinking and cooking.) I have been letting my bags steep for approximately 5 minutes. (Still clear not murky.)

We usually get coffee at client's houses here and it almost ALWAYS needs cream and sugar (even though we drink both black at home).

Why don't communists like Earl Grey?

Because all proper Tea is theft.

Loose tea, in a pot, boiling water, stirred and left to brew for 3 mins. milk in cup (soya for me) first. test colour of tea, must be red. pour. Best enjoyed looking at finished job sitting on stump. Done right, tea is elevated above beer, is it not?

Are we talking Rich Tea, Digestives or something altogether more fancy ?

I have been to your lovely island twice (long time ago) and seem to remember many terms that had different meanings. I am trying to remember, are biscuits crackers (like saltines, nonsweet) and crackers cookies (like chocolate chip; sweet)?

So, Monkeyd, you are talking about biscuits (crackers) above?

Thanks, Sylvia

Biscuits are flat and are generally sweet. Cookies are also sweet but are rough and curved on top, crackers are savory and not suitable for dunking in tea. What are saltines? sounds like a tinned fish product.

Our bicuits (and I really must have nothing to do this afternoon) include Rich Tea, Digestive, Chocolate Digestive, Hob Nob, Custard creams, Bourbon, Jaffa cakes(controversial) nice, crinkle crunch (my fave but do not dunk) Jammy dodgers.

We generally have Maryland cookies with choclate chips in packets and bigger cookies from shops specialising in very nice any flavor you want type cookies.

it took my wife best part of 3 years to learn to make a proper cup of tea after she moved here from the states.

couple points....

1.dont add the milk till after you've brewed the tea.

2. use the back of the tea spoon to strain the tea bag, not the front.

oh, and just checked with the wife.....biscuits here are what you refer to as cookies.
