Good news

Just had some good news - my grant application has been sanctioned to assist with start up of a firewood business. After lots of research and visits, the choice of machine is down to either a BGU KSA370Z from Perry Plant or a Palax KS35 Ergo from Caledonian Forestry Services.

They both seem to be well made, have relatively few parts to go wrong and are the same price. So it is really difficult to choose between the two, it may just come down to who I can get the best deal from.

Any one got any views they would like to share?:confused1:

hi could you tell me how you went about getting a grant to start a firewood business,i would be really intrested

In the north east we have a body called Northwoods which is run by the Rural Development Initiatives Ltd to promote forestry business and the use of wood as fuel. I was able to only apply for assistance with the purchase of dedicated firewood machinery, so a processor was fine but not the tractor you need to run the processor (puzzling I know but their argument is you could go off and plough fields with the tractor!). It is rather specific so I ended up only being allowed to apply for a processor, a log deck and a bag packer. However, another benefit of contacting Northwoods was they helped put me through CS 30 and 31 which did save a fair bit.

I hope this is of assistance to you but do not hesitate to PM me for any further info.:thumbup1:
