Tree id help please

Recommended Posts

Hi,found these logs whilst splitting, cant seem to identify what tree its from.

Bark looks similar to Aspen but has a paper like outer layer that you can peel off like birch.

The wood itself is very hard, heavy and dense like beech and in the outer section has a grain pattern similar to beech, the inner section/heartwood seems paler with no apparent graining.

I also found some round ball like burrs/growths in the bark, which when peeled of were beautifully patterned 'balls' of wood.

Apologies for my descriptions, any help to id the tree much appreciated...
