As I read it you dont need to do CPC, as driving the vehicle is not your main work.

C1+E covers you for 7.5 tonne truck and 3.5 tonne trailer.

thats how i read it but i need cpc to do my own maintanace which im told

VOSA are all about Vehicles. They aren’t the right people to be asking about driving

licence categories DVLA is the authority for that.

Your VOSA man is confused. As a pre 97 licence holder you are entitled to 8250kg as a combination. This means a 7.5 tonner plus a trailer of 750kg, or a smaller towing vehicle with a larger trailer (up to 3500kg).

Your licence is probably the source of the confusion. Many show a pictogram of a box van (7500kg) with a trailer which looks like a waggon and drag. There is either and asterisk or a “201” with the pictogram which indicates the trailer entitlement is restricted to 750kg

A trailer test will allow you to go to 3500kg on over run brakes.

Some pre-97 licence holders retained the full C1+E entitlement, depending on when they exchanged their licence, I believe. I didnt believe it until someone with the entitlement showed me their licence.
