id and what to do please??

found these babies i think that its Inonotus dradeus. shame my camera isnt amazing. these are in a wooded area next to a shed. i dont really want to spend loads getting it sorted, if anything can be done and i understand the roots may fracture. is felling the only way.

It is indeed Inonotus dryadeus, and a lot of it at that! As for extent of decay it does look pretty terminal, but it may stand for many more years if it is well sheltered from the wind. After all, one man's dangerous tree is another man's micro-habitat. Would moving the shed and any other targets be an option?

 

A tip for the camera though, next time you want to take a focused picture of something up-close, look for a little flower icon/button which will set the camera to 'macro.'

cheers will. ben90 i forgot to use the micro. getting an upgrade soon

its not too exposed. its right outside the shed in the wood. the crown is pretty tight and hasnt a massive spread. little bit of decline. i was thinking about a reduction and a deadwood. felling is an option.

is the fungi going to stain the wood grain, will this make it better for planking or is it going to become powdery?
