thanks for the exceptionally fast reply. well everyone barr none says go for it and i've learnt not to ignore good advice. he's an old employer, actually my first employer a wee buck of 17 blunting all his saws i was. thats why i didn't want to take advantage, and come to a compromise that would suit both. and yes he knows i'm around for a year, he's a complete gear junkie, you should see how much stuff he owns. you'd think we do huge removals day in and day out.

so no one gets paid a fee for using their own gear?

When I used to subbie to fountain, their own men had their own saws and were paid an hourly allowance for there use,all their ppe and climbing gear was provided, as far as I know.

stops them abusing the saws and encourages good practice and maintenance i suppose. not an entirely bad idea for a big company IMO. I couldnt see it working with most smaller outfits

fair comment I guess lol

I can see why in a big company they would do it. multiple crews all over the place, making it hard to keep tabs on equipment, who's using it, how theyre using it.

In a small crew where the boss is there the whole time, he's more likely to notice and stop it happening.

that was my thinking anyways
