Tree climbing for young-uns!

We did something similar (novice tree climbing) at work but it got binned due to the damage to the tree.

Is there any payment involved? - If there is, it's a different ball game. If you're covered by their insurance that should be OK, but check their policy around ratios for climbing and qualifications. I'd cover yourself by having some one with SPA (rock climbing instructor) on site for the session. I'd recommend a kid intensive top roping system (bell ringer or walk back spring to mind). This way you can have 1 climbing, 4 belaying x 2 = all involved.

 

Have you got the right sized helmets/harnesses?

Done the crb.They just check if your dodgy around kids. Anyone who wks with children has to.

 

It would be v safe on a beley system on a ladder type tree with two trained climbers and one belay.

 

 

Am i the second trained climber by any chance?????:wave:

My niece and nephew are witchcraft as I call it.. They still haven't learnt to fly the brooms yet.

 

Don't be put off, if your insured, got the correct training, and equipment. Top roping is pretty safe.. Kids should be able too experience this stuff.

 

I grew up in London but spent ages mucking about at scouts with axes and fire and "dangerous" stuff. I'd hate it if my kids didn't get the chance to enjoy these things in a "controlled environment."

 

Kids get loads out of it, I used to have kids telling me the 30ft absail I'd just sent them crying down was the best thing they had ever done!

 

One of the reasons I got in to tree work was I need an adrenaline boost every now and then to keep me going. When I worked in an office or schools I'd go hang gliding, kayaking, mountain biking, diving whatever.. I need it to stay sane. Kids should be able to do activities that feel dangerous..

im sure the hse issues along must be a nightmare....but heres something else to consider....i dont think just anyone can take children on activities these days? the lad who works for me is 19, and a kickboxer. He is soon to start helping instructing at his club and because of this had to sit a 3 hour test (CRB?) to assess if he was suitable to be around children.

its a big shame ,as my daughter and my 2nephews love climbing .we have the odd sunday where they get up a tree and they love it.
