Hi all like a few people I know I often visit this website without logging in just for a cheeky browse about and to see whats going on.But since going self employed I started using the site more and more and started contacting people through the site. This has led me to working with and meeting some top blokes as well as top arborists. So as an arbtalk convert I would like to put my details out there......so here goes. My name is Steven and I have been climbing for 8 years before that I was a groundie for 4. I keep busy locally but as most contractors get days free to work with other people, of which I'm a strong believer of. I think travelling a bit to work with other companies makes me a better arborist (always more to learn). I currently hold cs30, 31, 32, 38, 39, 41 and woodchipper. I also have first aid at work full driving license and dip/arb. About the 30-40% reductions you and ness seem to be in discussion about, in my opinion no attack on anyone blah blah blah. It is basic chemical biology(well as basic as chemical biology can get) that removal of huge amount of foliage from a tree at any one time is bad news and yes trees have an amazing ability to recover and live on but Surely large pruning cuts and loss of foliage is not a good thing for the tree and most likely swerves more to what the customer wants then whats best for the tree. This debate however is very healthy Arb is young and its important to push for the correct answers in what seems to be a grey area for many. But to be seen as the profession we all want arb to be seen as we need to be more consistant with what we tell our customers I also realise we are all in a business and need to earn money, but i will stick to my morals and what I believe is right. Like ness says only time will tell..............when all Tonys trees die...Joke!

I often see mature trees shaking all there limbs off at once. Im up for a sit down chat about BS3998 info shared is knowledge gained in my opinion.

Well that solves that. Maybe I should be reading sociology books instead of tree books.

Hi Skyhuck Dont get me wrong think the site is great for info especially the fungi stuff, but think sometimes people are favoured and backed up by arbtalk buddies if someone dare have a seperate opinion. Think sometimes a bit of my black cats a panther and lets all feed an ego is funny at times though.

Hello I dont post often on this site because I feel the freedom of debate on a forum has been lost. But I have to say something about this thread. I have been following since the start and I think its great that pictures are posted of reductions. However I do feel that some are heavy and in the long term will not benefit the tree. That is my view and I asume the knowledge you have is the same as others who bother to read and learn about trees. I may be wrong and I believe others can be. Arb is young and we are all still learning . I hope you are open minded and willing to learn just as you aim to teach us young uns. It will be interesting to see pictures of these trees in say 50-60 years but I doubt that will happen. Cheers cheers

HA HA Kids are stupid.....we should cut down all the trees so we can have loads of bonfires thats a real reason !!! Seriousley i dont agree with his reasons but i am not worried that he is going to start some mad tree killing revolution! Its pretty funny though especially the bit about the cats.

I have a background in rock climbing and My grade is/was very high indeed. It has informed my tree climbing and so i would say I am very competant. What grade exactley what sort of climbing Sport, Trad... Bouldering? What crags you visit? I am a very keen rock climber and it is totally different to tree climbing tree climbing you climb your rope alot and sit in your harness climbing, well, sitting in your harness is what your trying not to do! I suppose it would improve stamina up a tree but not technique.....but then again what do i know??????? Just interested because if i can proof rock climbing helps my work i might get earlier finishes:icon14:......for the benefit of the job like.

Unlucky mate you do get some tools doing this job feel for you mate losing money and in the pissing rain, its always a shame when the general public do no take you proffesional advice surely thats why they ring you... She obviousley wanted you to butcher the tree so in my opinion you did right walking away she probably would have never been happy until the tree was a 8ft stump!!!!!!

You talk crap i can not believe you get TPO work without the tickets wind your neck in no one is saying you cant do your job as you say with your experiance you obviousley can. Accidents have nothing to do with planning thats why they are called accidents people are just trying to offer you some advice in case one day super awesome tree surgeon has an injured person on there site and oops aresole insurance company wont pay! Chill out!! I hate crap like this if we are competition and you dont want to offer good advice why do you even post?..........not having a go like!!!!!!!
