Before and after bramble clearing

Even though I'm getting shut of my wood I couldn't help going on the rampage today against bramble, I hate the stuff, it's a never ending battle. I went at it wth the tractor with the bucket just off the ground, picked up any deadwood and marked where old stumps were, then mulched it with the mower.

 

Then added the deadwood to my existing deadwood habitat piles

 

Dogs can now run around without getting ripped to pieces.

We have held about three meetings there before now, the wood is about 3.5 acres but half is on a slope and it has access rights through it to a scout camp, so on a weekend (especailly in the six week holiday) traffic through the wood is horrendous and they drive like loonies

 

So I'm doing a land swap with the scouts for a plot half the size but flat on the other side of the track which can be totally fenced off and will have no speeding mummies traffic problem

Mums are no problem, it's the traumatised kids after seeing a liver and white spaniel bouncing up the windscreen and over the roof

dean what tractor and mower did you do that with? doing a similar thing myself at the moment, 8ft ferms and brambles but lots of stone and deadwood on the ground. cant get the tractor and flail in as there isnt enough head room and also i keep breaking flails on stones so i am doing it with a big brushcutter. which i am absolutely loving. and so is my back. and arms. and generally feeling like i've been shot at all day by little flying stones. you know what i mean.

dean what tractor and mower did you do that with? .

 

I actually did it with a walk behind mower with knackered blades, thats the only reason I used it otherwise it would have been a flail.

 

Your problems is exactly why I ran the tractor through first but it is a compact tractor which is only 7ft high with cab, running through with that first gives you enough to see obstacles and stones etc.

 

You could hire a walk behind and just go through on a very slow crawl that way if you hit anything you can reverse straight away. But if you havent got the headroom this will be the only way, but dont use your own mower

 

I used the walk behind on a low setting that way a stump wont go under and it just pushes big stones or deadwood along instead of it going under the cutter deck
