well it is a decent mark up compared to sitting about doing nothing for 3 days a week!!!! just want to be busy really, i miss all the logging i used to do........ so i know the cost of hardwood and roughly you can double what you paid after conversion, its your time that cost but if your not doing anything anyway its free time for me!!:001_tt2:

ha ha love the comment if you have a shed use that etc!! curently living in a houseshare....garden is tiny with a tiny full shed with no rear access apart from through the house!! similar to where i used to live in a terrace down south! all i really need is space...........sometimes i think people with space/lans dont apprieciate how lucky they are to have it as noone will give me a loan or mortage either and so renting somewhere is my only option. Im not having a go at anyone but if you have land to spare then its a lot easier and it frustrates me when people have it and dont use it!!

Find a farmer who will swap some yard space for logs

yeah that was my first thought but i thought id post here first as some farmers can be very odd about phonecalls like that!!! ha ha

both right.farmers like a deal and also can be odd!! i rent a corner of an old sileage clamp for a tenner a week.its concrete with a sleeper wall round it,i give him 3 days harvest help in august and it pretty much covers my rent for the year.he also owns the green waste site i tip at so get a good rate there too.he likes another set of eyes round the place, been told a couple of times about mess/sawdust etc so now i keep it spotless.i sharpen his saw occasionally and give him a fag, works well for both sides

just ask around locally. theres loads of land about. look around. just find a bit out the way and find out who's it. say you want to store some logs there. they might just need a tree trimming in exchange. that's how i got started. add in the local news agent or post office or ask people walkig dogs.

Come on guys the reason we do logs is to make money, if we didn't make money then we wouldn't be doing it - well somepeople may but thats another story.

Theres money to be made but it's directly proportional to the amount of stress you receive and the work you put in IMO.

To the original poster. I have a yard but it's miles away from anywhere so I use my back garden at the moment or try and cut them to a good size on site then they just need splitting.

you dont need a yard mate, you dont need money to make money what you need is the belief in yourself that you can do it, the reasons you gave in your first post are excuses i will be blunt now coz i deleted my first 2 posts as i didnt want to be harsh and i dont know you from Adam and its not my place to judge you, or lecture you, i want to help you.:thumbup1:

A poor teacher tells someone what to do, a great teacher shows you what to do but an exceptional teacher Inspires you to want to do it.

When i lived in my little tin shack out in a field i couldnt afford the heating so to stay warm, so i would split logs outside with a spotlight on,(i didnt have a fire) then i would sell the logs on my way to and from my work, paying for my fuel. Then when i sold a few more logs i bought a saw and ended up cutting up trees for farmers in return for yard space and use of a tractor and trailer. Then the farmer would let me climb and cut his trees around his fields and i would sell the logs and get good practice, then when i got better i bought a log burner and burnt coal and watched my big new telly in the heat as i didnt need to split logs anymore becasue i made plenty working for myself doing tree work.

Now i have a log fire just for effect and i dont live in a shack anymore.

Wise words - If you believe you can do it, you can. Nobody else will believe in you until you believe in yourself.

Another point is don't be afraid to embarass yourself by asking - If you don't ask you won't get!
