PRESS RELEASE - 18 June 2010

The ARB Show - heralded a success by all

Held on 11th and 12th June, the Arboricultural Association’s 12th Annual Trade Fair has been heralded a success by all, and it was not just the sunshine that inspired warm feedback from visitors and exhibitors at the event. The newly named ARB Show attracted just short of two thousand visitors over a busy two days and with a record entry to the show’s 3ATC climbing competition, a busy programme of events and demonstrations for visitors, and the vast majority of people leaving with purchases they had made, both visitors and exhibitors reported a positive show.

“The ARB Show is clearly maintaining its position as the country’s biggest show dedicated to arboriculture, and we’re really pleased to have received such positive feedback from all involved”, said Nick Eden, Director of the Arboricultural Association, speaking after the event. “We would like to thank all our visitors, sponsors and exhibitors for making The ARB Show such a success, and also to acknowledge the important role of our many

volunteers working behind the scenes, without whom it simply could not take place.”

Almost two thousand visitors attended The ARB Show this year, making the most of the opportunity to explore over 70 trade stands promoting services and selling an extensive choice of products for arborists and those working in the arboricultural sector. New products appearing at the event included a new access platform from Cumberland Industries, new climbing ropes from UK distributer Fletcher Stewart and from ForestandArb.com, and new pruning saws from Sorbus International. Main event sponsor STIHL also launched its new STIHL X-Fit PPE range at the show, and the clothing was

worn by the STIHL-sponsored Canopy Access team who held a series of demonstrations giving insights into the specialist combination of techniques used when working in some of the tree world’s most challenging environments.

More demonstrations, workshops and practical sessions around the showground included a series of demonstrations by Kingswood Training on the safe matching and use of rigging systems sponsored by Fletcher Stewart; and the Tree Climbers’ Forum were busy as ever guiding visitors on a whole range of practical and kit-related issues. The construction

site was also a popular attraction, with Abbey Pynford presenting their Housedeck foundation system and Geosynthetics demonstrating Cellweb, their Geocellular tree root protection system.

The Contractors’ Workshop also laid on a programme of more formal presentations, where visitors could hear for example, about the process involved in the development of arb industry products, about the correct use of an air spade in root care management and about best practice when working at height.

A highlight of this year’s show was the 3ATC climbing competition, which attracted a busy line-up of climbers, including a number of first-time competitors in the Novice category. Sponsored by Arbjobs.com, the 3ATC (Arboricultural Association Arborist Tree Challenge), welcomed a record thirty five entries across the four categories, and congratulations go to

all who took part. A full set of results is available on the dedicated 3ATC website (Arboricultural Association Arborist Tree Challenge), and winners are confirmed: Ben Connan – Premier Climb (sponsored by Forestandarb.com), Steve Gale – Expert (sponsored by Honey Brothers), Neil Taylor – Novice (sponsored by F.R.Jones & Son), Mark Merrett – Veteran (sponsored by Northern

ARB Supplies).

The Arboricultural Association would like to thank all exhibitors and sponsors, including STIHL (Main Event Sponsor), Horticulture Week (Media Sponsor) and Arbjobs.com(Competition Sponsor) for their input and contribution to this year’s show. Dates for the 2011 ARB Show will be announced by end of this year, and the Arboricultural Association

invites input from all involved in the industry to ensure the event continues to meet their needs and expectations in the future. Meantime, visit the Arboricultural Association’s new website: www.trees.org.uk for a gallery of images from the 2010 event.

Enjoying a day at The ARB Show, a team from Lampeter Tree Services in West Wales had plenty to celebrate with two 40th birthdays, an 18th and a stag among the reasons to be cheerful. Proprietors of the arb contracting business, brothers Meirion and Emyr Williams certainly seem to have a good recipe for success – the business has been established for almost 20 years and employs 30 people.

helped simply explain how to safely configure a rigging system. The team then went on to talk about current equipment markings, cycles to failure and dynamic loads.
