Common name Massari Platani.

Found on plane trees in warmer mediterranean countries although recently occuring in Germany and Holland. Also found in USA.

I have it on very good authority that this dead branch i cut out yesterday show the effects of it. Generally it is the top of a limb effected making it difficult to spot from the ground. Here you can see the trough running along the top and C.O.D.I.T.

Your good authority wouldn't be a certain RP principal TO would it

Remmember talking to him over this a couple of years back, but not knowingly come across it yet.

Though did climb inspect a Plane with something similar, which we thought originally was related to top branch squirrel damage.

Have you got a shot of the bark surface above the affected area?

Evidence of trees hit in germany seem to suggest that trees that are stressed due to drought seem to be getting it more so than others. So deffo a possibility i suppose.

No top pic David and only just managed to get this one before it dissapeared through the chipper! (too busy listening to said RP TO going on) Very very little bark on the limb. Totally sun backed and bleached most of it.

So I don't have to go dissecting every Plane tree, what are the symptoms and significance of said nasty?
