I'm sure it's either C prunifolia or C x crus galli (Cockspur thorn). They are quite similar, but according to Collins guide: the leaf of C x grus galli is entirely glabrous; there is only fine pubescence on the mid-rib of C prunifolia.

buckthorn thorns are much longer, theres a whole load of it on the hill behind my house. dont mess with it.

I would hope that I know Blackthorn as I've encountered plenty of that. Cockspur is looking favorite then, and the broad leaf variety me thinks.

Ditto what everyone else says - Cockspur Thorn. It's quite common around my way as a small street tree.

ANy offer appreciated, tree looks like a hawthorn, its got some massive thorns too, but not sure what it is.

 

Some kind of plum? Customer says definatly not plum.

 

If I get the rest of the work at this house then I'll take more photos.

Hi I think it is a lavalle hawthorn Crataegus x lavallei.

I knew the thorns but not the name, now i do. Thanks folks:thumbup1:. They spike in and usually leave the tip in when you take them out through clothing and then go a bit funky, tricky to dig out your shoulder, a hairdresser found a huge one years ago in my scalp, her clippers nearly jammed:biggrin:

Im interested in this too Rupe, I felled one of these last week, The bark looked like Hawthorn but the leaves were exactly like those you have put up, I forgot my phone that day tho, So i didnt get any pics

Hi guys.... have u thought of Crataegus x lavalleei - the hybrid cockspurthorn! Looks like that to me.
