Yep afraid there was just too much goddamn barbed wire. All the trees grew along an old fence line and i would have spent the 8 alloted days cutting out barbed wire and not felling

Plus i wasnt exactly thinking about timber values on this job more getting the road open again.

You could just about see Calais:wave:

Hello,

Crispy's got no internet at the moment, so I'm afraid you'll have to make do with me.

They eventually kill the tree, effectively girdling it with all of the holes. You'd be suprised how far in those grubs get.

I took some photo's of the root plate of the one that fell over, there really was nothing holding it up, as well of a picture of one of the grubs munching its way through the centre of one of the exposed roots, I'm sure when he gets back online he'll sort them out.

Hope this helps,

Damion.

didnt they leave big holes in the tarmac?

Most main roads are so well constructed that if 10,000 or 50,000 vehicles can drive over them each day then a tree is no problem.

I only know of one guy to punch in a road in 20 years and that was a minor lane following the storm in 1987

. The council man said fell the tree , phil said what about the road , council man said fell it and we will fill the hole afterwards, the tree has got to go.

i know a guy that has punched several holes in roads ME we have even used cranes on 2 occassions just to not have to fell stems onto roads as the damage would have been more than a crane for a day there is a difference between cars driving down a road and a 10 ton tree falling and pushing a 6inch stub down thoughroads are a lot stronger than pavements
