They used this fencing when putting a new pipeline through kent. It was about 20,000m and the got 3 newts.

 

Thats what surveys are for. If you dont do them you dont know what you might be trashing.

Putting up this type of fencing is a good thing, and for good reason. Native British reptiles and amphibians are either in decline some are rare and all have lost vast swathes of habitat over the previous decades.

Its only right the developers should stump up the cash to survey and relocate our native wildlife where there is potential for habitat loss.

Totally agree with you there, after all it was the utility company paying for it.

I worked on a planting job at rearsby near leicester a few years back and the new bypass had large underpasses for badgers to use. one of the local farmers had some short legged dexter cattle tht were also able to use the tunnels, along with a local homeless person who set up camp in one of them. I saw a lot of the newt fencing on a planting job in uxbridge when the athletics stadium was renovated, a large area of land had to be put on on side because of a newt survey. I spent a week in waders planting up a new pond that was created for them. They even built newt hotels!!!
