Why do 'they' do this.

Stuck in a cheery traffic jam on the A338 Nortbound last night, I got to pondering this stuff.

Ive seen that used in the SW to direct floodwater in areas prone to flooding?

I s'pose it could be to do with controlling runoff, as the vegitation on the bank has recently been cleared, and bare earth is exposed.

 

Not sure if the area was that that favourable to newts, might be to do with smooth snakes though, arn't they about in the new forest?

I have seen that used to direct hedgehogs to special safe places to cross.

Newt fence,

 

Smoooth snake relocation,

 

Bat suryeys

 

Hedgehog crossings,

 

Toad underpasses.

 

I hope all this wildlife appreciates our efforts to not steamroller it in the name of 'progress'.

 

 

 

 

Got some Slowworms living along the hedge on the right hand side of the garden. Maybe some newt fence will stop them from getting tangled in the Hayterette.

Cant remember where it was, but somewhere in Hampshire or Wiltshire they actually dug an underpass under the road, so the little critters could cross safely. They then used that fencing to funnel all the little beasties to the right place.

 

By all accounts it wasn't as user friendly as first though as the local foxes thought that a restaurant had been opened for them and just sat and waited for the next delivery to be funnelled their way.

its newt and invertabrae fencing, dug below ground level it stops them crossing the road in this instance.
