brand new stihl ms 170 dies under load

bought a new ms 170 for cutting new sleepers and topping posts etc, but dies when any load is put on it, runs ok flat out with no load?? any ideas apart from taking it back to dealer, cheers

spark plug cover may be loose. Might be a faulty plug

Old railway sleepers? All the crud in the wood can gunk up the chain. Guessing you've checked chain tention and all that?

no new sleepers, chain tension is fine, 2010 stamped on chain brake handle so not old stock!

And sharpness after each cut.......railway sleepers will blunt a saw for a pastime.

first cut into new sleeper and it died, so chain is sharp?? these are not old sleepers, they are new softwood 2.4x125x200 mm sleepers for retaining walls etc, so no crap in them!?

Same thing happened with my shonky old McCulloch - it was the carburator.
