I did my test when i was 22 and at 23 got my pick (D22 Navara). It was 1200 quid to insure for the first year now at 26 insurance is still 800 quid with NFU. I wanted a Landy 110 CSW but the insurance for that was over 2000 quid for a 5000 quid Landy.

at the min iv got a lany TD5 90 51 reg its £2500 fully comp with 3.5ton trailer, just the job. and thtas a 18

 

but im now im looking in to a cabstar any young lads runnin em???

sorry thats at the age of 18

 

A mate of mine does made it look pretty smart got some cages for it so can use it for tree work aswell he rates em quite well

 

and he is 18 not a clue about insurance though sorry

Thank you for the responses. Very useful. My favorites so far are the small daihatsu or suzuki idea. The suzuki van with the side door being very insteresting. Then maybe an estate car with a trailor (subaru, or primeras seem good value). I'll look into the idea of a very old SWB landy, maybe on classic insurance. I have worked out on the insurance web pages (go compare etc) that typical 4 x 4 pick ups were £2500, and NFU were not interested in on young driver, unless it was wrapped up with other polices such farm insurance. Thanks again.

I would be interested to know the name of the insurance company that offers you £800 on a series 2.

its insured as a classic with limited milage to 5000

free breakdown cover and 30 day europen cover and legal cover

if my dad where to hold the policy without me it would be £50 fully comp

 

but it is my own policy with only me dad as a named driver

Thank you for the advice. I have going around in circles with trying to sort out a vehicle that will suit 3 year plan to be a climbing arborist, with options for other work such as small time landscaping/gradening and occasional small residential work on the the way. Anyway finally settled on a 2006 diesel Astravan. Why? New eco engine with cheap car tax, group 4 insurance, reportedly very reliable, ecomonical for driving long distances to be a groundie or climber subbie on a weeks contract, service intervals very long, can tow approx 1500kg, and can load carry approx 700-800 kgs, can take roof bars for steps/ladder, and usable as personal transport. I concluded if you want decent load carrying, then you need a proper truck anyway, which is not so good for all the other uses you might have for a vehicle.
