hi, im new on here so firstly, owdo!

Just a quick one to see if anyone has any bright ideas about advertising/scoring jobs etc.

I dont think there is anyone on here from my neck of the woods so hopefully you wont be giving me your ideas and then finding me pinching all your jobs.

I have recentley set up with a mate and so far we have been doing really well, bearing in mind we also do timber building and other things, but recentley work has been drying up and apart from ads in the local paper and shops etc we dont know where else to look.

Need some jobs so any help would be appreciated.

Welcome! I'd like to help you but unfortunately, other than advertising in the usual places(yellow pages, Thomas local, internet) there's not a lot you can do. I think the best advertisement you can get is word of mouth, do a great job and they'll tell a friend or two but do a bad job and they'll tell everyone they know! Good luck anyway, if it helps i think it going quiet all over at min.

get some flyers made, and on a wet day go round delivering once you get a few customers if you do a good job word of mouth will do the rest, and that don't cost nowt:icon14:

p.s. if you know a postie bung him £20 quid and hey presto:call2:

:dito::dito::dito: on all the above points, this year looks like things arent going to be brilliant for many trades, including tree work. Start small and local, build up a good name for good quality work, and good luck.

Hope i don't offend anyone but i thought only pikies posted flyers!

what i did was posted flyers with a business card attached to it, which have both a home and mobile telephone no.

when your starting, or if work drys up its a good cheap way to drum up some business:icon14:

I agree, it does come across as a bit amateur, not to mention the fact that the local authorities around here advise people not to use tradesmen who stuff flyers in their letter boxes.

If you use flyers that are eyecatching and look professional saying your quals and that your insured and you are willing to give customer references if you have them, wouldnt that be better than sitting at home hoping for the phone to ring?

I'v done a wee bit with leaflet drops, I'm certainly not offended by anyone else's views on the subject.

I work in order to pay the bills and maintain my wife in the manner to which she has become accustomed.

If work is thin on the ground then drumming up business by any legitimate means is better than going bankrupt because someone might think your a pikey.
