I have resisted for a very long time. but youv'e got me now, I see stereum everywhere, or think I do. I'm swotting up a bit for monkeys next test.

Wait till I get the next camera, was gonna be a G11, but might be a panasonic GF1. Sorry for my usual derail, but it goes without saying that your pics are good.

you will see stereum everywhere, very common, as is the Trametes versicolour, they are probaly the most abundant, fruiting all year round almost.

I will do a stereum thread, help you work them out a bit better in your mind, their easy once you get a few things in your head about their habits.

And i say once again, I really dont mind relevant discussions! the only serious derail that ever annoyed me was in the Rare fungi thread!

I wasn't part of that.

Quick fire question : what eats / breaks down last years fruiting bodies? Or is it just the elements?

.

I see! then so it shall be done! I shall do a two level comp! the upper for all and the lower for the rest, mmmmm prizes, what shall we offer for prizes?

I wasn't part of that.

Slugs birds, other fungi, many insects also devour fruit bodies from within, woodlice, rodents its endless. Fungi are a good easily digestable source of food. They drive the whole system, in one way or another. I actualy wonder if all the other kingdoms evolution was not influenced and directed by fungi, and that is not far fetched an idea.

That would be appreciated Hamma. Nothing like a bit of education for us completely unintelligent tree surgeons Aye:001_smile:

lol, and dont forget unskilled too!:laugh1:
