Yes powering the chipper off the mog on red is fine however you would have to remove the back bodie and have it as a cab chassis as no load or goods can be carried. Like you say this is a very grey area.

Actually you don’t have to remove the load space, the vehicle can carry any tools that are needed for the operation of the vehicle so signs and cones, saws fuel, climbing kit, your butties, Liam’s jet boil, and other essentials are fine.

Who is "they"?

The only agency with fuels in their remit is HMCE.

If you were stopped by VOSA, plod, another, they couldn’t care less about fuel.

They sorted it out with the revision of schedule 1 of the Hydrocarbon Oils Duty Act.

Before that people were calling conifer bashing “urban forestry” and abusing an exemption they weren’t entitled to. The government recognised that schedule 1 was no longer for for purpose and acted accordingly to stem the estimated millions in lost revenue.

If you are in any doubt about which fuel you should be using ask HMCE, not vosa or plod.

I was referring to the authorities. If they had it "sorted out", when you got pulled by plod or vosa they would be straight on the phone if "they" knew what they were doing!

I went out of my way to ask advise of a traffic sergeant about an issue, to be later pulled by vosa and told i would be fined if i continued in that manner. Believe me, they have not got it sorted!
