I disagree, the people on tonights show were spending serious amounts of money to have their 'perfect" garden, and to end up making do with sub-standard work would detract from that. To try and line up the pleached hornbeams by sighting it up looking towards the house was not the best way. I'd have used sighting poles, theodolites and anything available to get it right. To have then re-planted them at all different levels was definitely not the best technique, and consequently they had to do the whole lot for a third time. The client is a perfectionist, pure and simple. Tom, (the designer) asked if I was interested in the tree planting side there, but then the client found his own guys to do the job, so I dipped out on that one:001_rolleyes:

I agree that effing and blinding isnt necessarily the best approach with people, but imagine his frustration at spending a decent wedge on a garden, and yet the guys on the ground dont get it right? Knowing you have TV cameras following the progress, you'd want it to be the best possible outcome. As to whether the job is worthwhile for the hassle, well if you do a good job and people see you on national tv, what better way to advertise your services.

They'd probably hoped that would be edited out!! But it does show the precision needed to get things right on this kind of scale, and a simple error can manifest into a big mess quickly. I dont think its turned out to be a bad advert for the company concerned, they stuck at it at their own expense til they got it right, they didnt throw in the towel and jack in at the first hurdle, and the final result was spot on.

shame about the chelsea flower show garden they stuck in the "back garden" looked like a wildlife garden that had been knocked up by the local wildlife trust :001_rolleyes: only cost them about 100 grand :laugh1:

couldnt work out how the designer came up with that figure. It was a shame as the tree planting, hornbeam hedge, stumpery and rose garden where spot on. The designers garden looked totally out of context with the overall formal style.
