Best climbing knot? Whats your opinion?

if you set your footlock line up so its cinched up with a midline knot at the anchor point you only need to back up the one leg....if not you'll need to back up both, if that makes sense

On the ascenders select a sling hat lets you extend your arms fully.

What friction hitch do you all prefer to use when climbing!!?

 

Split-tail with double fisherman's knot and a Blake friction hitch does it for me (just one step up from the good old prussik.

 

The advantages of the Blake over the prussik are:

 

* Adjustable length/position (easier than re-tying the prussik).

* It does not lock up as easily (no need to continually loosen up the friction hitch).

I use a prussik, though I wrap it round my line thrice rather than twice cos it's a bit on the long side. Noticed yesterday that it was bunching up my rope rather, think maybe 3 wraps is a bit too tight. I'm going to try a blakes hitch next week for a change.

Spliced eye and a helical wrap for me prussik, I used to use the old prussik knot but once i tried the helical i never went back, love that knot, so constant.

 

Do you tie the Helical like th'is, securing it with a (running) bowline? Come Caving with the VPI Cave Club!

 

I'd like to try the Helical, but I don't trust the unsecured bowline...

no i use a longer than usual normal double fishermans tied loop and wrap as in a photo to come shortly

VT/Hitchclimber 13mm rope and 8mm friction cord

works so well and so much faster/easier than a prussik!

in the dry it grips 100% of the time after tending the slack, in the wet you have to give it a bit of encouragement.
