An engraving tool for all those metal items without a unique I.D. number. For ropes a simple label with shrinkwrap tubing covering it.

IMO the information/ident details you put on don't need to be exhaustive but need to clear so they can be referenced to the relevant documentation

just be carefull where you engrave on karabiners, if you mark them up on the gate as a lot of people do most examiners will fail them.

if you order from places like sorbus all metal work comes lazer etched:icon14:

Keep numbering smiple eg ATL C82 is ATL (me) C (climbing) 82 (item number 82) Never reuse a number. so for rigging kit use CN R69 CN (company name) R (rigging) 69 (oh I say thats a big device)

use a light color insulation tape with an ohp / chiangraph pen for textil, Use shrinck rap over this tape mark to protect it on ropes, build up a bump of tap to stop the srinck rap moving up and down the rope. You can write straight on to some kit, and engrave the metal work, some rigging kit will mark up with pen as well to make it easy to read, chnage the color of tape for rigging as well, this make ID easy.
