I see what you mean...The deutz (which is also air cooled) does have a shaft coming out of both ends, but the shaft was turning the wrong way for the hydraulic pump, so the engineer put an extra pulley behind the flywheel drive pulley, and mounted a layshaft running under the engine which he raised up a bit driven by a belt from the extra pulley. If you see what i mean. Ill try to find some pics if i have any.

Tbh I would end up sorting out the kohler or getting a new engine.

The diesel option would be way better in the long run but it wont be cheap and will take a fair bit of fettling to get it all sorted.

Think a new kohler is around £1500 probably just more than half of what a new deutz would cost. Unless of course you can find a really good second hand one and have a mechanic/engineer to help sort it out.

Lister LPA3 is a water cooled 3 pot diesel of about 25hp. If you have to replace with a new Kohler, get a bigger one like a 35hp V twin.

Thanks for the offers/advise guys but as Mesterh says its going to be too much hassle trying to get a diesel engine sorted and too much time wasted trying to get it sorted plus if its not a new engine then potentially I could be in the same position in a few days/weeks/months time. Plus I dont have the money to pay someone to fart arse around trying to get the engine working

I ordered a new Kohler engine on Thursday afternoon and it arrived Friday lunchtime ordered a load of new bolts and stuff from vermeer and they should be here on Monday so I should be up and running ready for Tuesdays job!!

The engine has cost me £1290 including delivery and including vat. Bolts and stuff around £50.

Fitting is free, by myself.

And the engine is warranted for 2 years.

Oh well.....its probablyy not the best moment to tell you that my conversion cost me £498 about 6 years back, and i had a pulley wheel adjusted last year for a further £20, and there have been no problems other than that.:blushing:

Glad you've got it sorted though.:thumbup1:

Maybe not but how long was your chipper out of action?:001_tt2: Mine finally gave up on Thursday and I should be up and running on Monday. Only 1 job (today's) have I had to act like a gyppo and load all the brash on the truck by hand and it was 4 loads of conifer, fortunately it was only 5 mins to my tip site.

However everything still needs to be chipped but that will get done on Wednesday, its my birthday:thumbup: on Monday so I'm not working that day, and I have another job on Tuesday so I haven't lost a single days work!!!

All in all not too bad!!!
