Hiya all,

Im considering relocating to London and was hoping to get some info from people who have been or are involved in tree work there. E.g ease of finding work / good companies worth approaching/ pay rates. What are the options for a guy with a year and a half climbing exp/ 4 CS tickets and pesticide/ FdSc Arb with distinction? Mainly after climbing work but would love an opportunity to get experience in tree health care, research, surveying, assisting consultants etc. Probably crash with my bro in Islington at first. Any advice at all much appreciated.

Thanks.

Avoid gristwood and toms and city and surban, my advice go for a smaller company, avoid price work unless you want to take risk, can give some horror storys on both companys

Do you mean price work as in you get paid by the number of trees etc like a utility arborist gets paid by metres etc.

Why are they so bad?

i know a few people working at gristwood out of croydon, and they say its pretty good, id avoid city suburban i know a climber that works there and he works a LOT and the trees are priced baddd, although they do have a good bonus scheme, but you have to wreck yourself for it to be worth it.

your on price and you will work you nuts off to earn £100 aday, with city and surban putting in cheap prices, it has effect gristwood and toms big deal, over the years the prices has drop by half, you get paid per tree , depending what borough your in also makes a difference also, some boroughs you dont earn your money, city and surban well they are just a joke, you better off in the salt mines
