Piston / Gudgeon Pin Circlip Fitting

How the crap do you get these stupid little circlips into the groove in the gudgeon pin boss? There are no little holes for long-nose pliers to compress the clip... Got the one on but now with the piston on the con-rod it's freakin impossible!!! Not wanting to do any damage obv... Any tricks??? Ta.

sounds like a squeeze with molegrips time..

tuning driver ,put 1 side in then ease it in ,grind the driver in to a point ,if that helps

Put a cloth in the crankcase opening for start to stop it dropping down there,try suporting the piston(2nd pair of hands)get one edge of the circlip in the groove and push the rest in at the same time compressing it with a bit of kindling or such like,so as not to scratch the piston.

Ensure the gudgeon pin is all the way in to expose the internal groove/seat for the circlip first,hope this helps,oh & give it all a coat of oil first.

Yep, I put a cloth in the crankcase to keep the dirt out. More of my problem seemed to be lack of light - clips seemed to be particularly strong!

As above but I also keep my thumb partially over the circlip while pushing the other side in so if it does spring out it doesnt fly across the workshop never to be seen again!
