cs units are not really in place to "allow" you to do things. In my opinion they are there to show that the candidate can safely carry out a skill or task to the desired criteria set by nptc. They are useful for perspective employers to get a vague idea of what a potential employee is capable of doing.

In this case your cs39 will "allow" you to purchase a top handled chainsaw, specifically designed to be use from a rope and harness, Otherwise the completion of your cs39 successfully states that you are capable to safely use a chainsaw whilst suspended from a rope and harness.

We were talking about this very thing the other day!!

My input was that it doesn't state what size saw you can use in a tree!! You can take some big twigs out with a 660 and 36inch bar.

Very grey area dismantling with CS41 being about.

whats grey about this

CS41 is dissmantling using ropes

CS 39 is using a saw in a tree no ropes

CS 39 now covers prunning cuts and removal of vertical sections and even using a sling in the removal of a branch

though if we are been arsey you could maybe fall short until you did an update to cover the vertical bits

but not been arsey:thumbup:

Bob, So we can dismantle trees (no ropes invloved) with 39??

yep

as i said the vertical bits were the sticking point which is why they have changed it

assessment is

step cut hand held

step cut free fall

sink cut hand held

sink cut free fall

1 piece must be done using a sling

and vertical sections

which is basically dismantling covered if no ropes are involved
