When I started chopping wood just over a year ago with an axe then splitter and small processor I stopped going into the gym but in the back of my mind I thought that I was still keeping fit because of all the lifting swinging lugging etc etc ( I`m 54 BUT am told I`m not like a normal 54 year old :001_smile:) ... I went in the gym yesterday and I have gone to rack and ruin .. I am nowhere in comparison to what I used to lift ... this manual labour lark isn`t good for you in any sense.

depends what you are doing in the gym, if you are after bulk then working all day isnt going to help, if you are going for big lifts then you will be pumped from work, if you want to be lean and skinny then work is the very dab for that lol

But I have lost strength .. I can only lift about 60% of what I used to and I used to be the dip king and now I think I would struggle to do ten ... sorry but manual labour does not seem to keep you fit but just kn@ckers your body.

depends what you are doing, if you are a hyper climber or brash rat log lifter you will have great stamina, for strength you know you have to rest between lifting, a few days. thats why office guys can sculpt great looking gym boddies and not one sided hunch backs from tree work. ha ha

Now I know why I have been feeling so knackered logging all that oak up! I hit 50 in a few weeks

Thats right ... when I was swinging the axe I kept telling everyone that I thought I would become deformed from one side of my body doing all the work .... and they said .. become??
