the best city is england is brighton imo, but its better in the summer. london is a good idea as there is so much to do but like u say there are too many people. you could visit kew gardens tho. or theres york, near by and very nice.

Deb, I got into running just before we started dating. She is the more competitive runner. I run for the enjoyment and the hills she goes for times and self improvement.

thats off topic however.

the North West of Scotland is nice. I'd say take a car however. problem is that you not get good weather, plus point is that the midges ain't out yet

I'd recommend the Borders of course but theres not as much to to do for the kids round here however I love Perthshire, there's great scenery lots of hotels and touristy stuff like the see through salmon ladder at Pitlochry. Theres also the Hermitage at Dunkeld where there are lots of big firs including one douglas as 212 foot, pretty impresssive. Also Perthshire is close enough to Edinburgh to visit it in one day and be back in the city for dinner.

I'd head to the Lakes/Peaks instead. Fresh air and beautiful views do more for me than cities.

I see countryside day in day out,

I sit in fields shooting day in day out.

I train dogs in the countryside,

I shoot pheasants and do shoot captain in the countryside.

I game keep, in the countryside.

I split logs, in the countryside.

I live, breathe and eat the countryside

Sometimes a man just wants a bit of clostrophobia every now and again :)

Check out London... plenty to do for all. As Jonesie said the southbank is a pretty good start, you can even get a ferry up/ down the thames instead of using the taxi, tube network if your worried about the commuters. River boat from Greenwich to the Tower of Lon. is about 6 quid each way and loads of history on the thames... enjoy wherever you get to. I would leave the car at home though, no need for it if your gonna stay central. You could even take the missus to Paris or Brussells for the day on the eurostar, cheap and v. quick. You can be in the centre of Paris quicker than I could get to Manchester on the train.
