yep the construction is very substantial, i just dont take the chance and diagonal suport all the gates i construct.

Thanks for the advice. I think the horozontals are wide and thick enough to support it but I'll keep an eye on things!

Thank you, Yes it's all stickered and stacked in a shady open barn. I'll have to bide my time. My wife loves the furniture pics in the other thread Rob, my first attempt at a green oak garden bench after easter!

Nice one - first one will always have a place in your heart :thumbup1:

Looks great mate. Will it move if it hasn't been dried? I'm keen to get into this kind of thing. Also whats lime like as timber? I have a huge one to remove (heartbreaking) and was wanting to get the butt log milled. Cheers mate.

Lime is 'perishable' as timber: i.e. the timber is has very little natural resistance to decay organisms. woodworm loves it and it'll rot before you can shake a candle. As has been said already, it is great for fine carving (check out England's greatest carver, Grinling Gibbons almost unbelievable feats of carving, most of which used Lime.). It's used for turning and for wood block prints etc. because of its very fine, even grain that's soft to cut in any direction

good luck.
