Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone knows how to disable the passenger airbag on a Ranger? It does not have a switch and am trying to find a solution, the main ford dealer say they are not sure if you can so asking if anyone knows how to? also if it is disabled will it effect the seatbelt tensioner on said side? Need a solution as got to drop daughter to nursery in May and got to use the truck to take her.

Cut the wiring and install a switch? You'd have to remember to turn it on with other passengers.

There's a guy in the US who sells a device to disable passenger airbags.

The problem with cutting the wiring is that won't this automatically set off all airbags. This is what some garages have said. also pulling the fuse may result in same thing.

I'll look for the sensor, is this linked to the belts?

no usually its under the seat, if you want to take the seats out then you would have to unplug it anyway, i hope its got one now haha, think its something to do with how close the seat position is to the dash, havnt played with one for ages though

Thanks for this, would unplugging this disable the bag or is it a sensor for the seatbelt?

I would unplug the bag direclty, as for the tensioner, removing the danger of the airbag to the child far outweighs the benefits of a bit of pre-tension.

Be careful when dealing with airbags, I know a chap that was killed by one

I want a garage to do it just finding it difficult to find someone who knows about it . There is no way I am taking her in the truck if I can't disable it. I would rather walk the 4 miles than risk it. Just the other day sitting in traffic a women ran into the back of me! damaged the tow bar but unfortunately it wasn't hard enough to set the bags off or it would have been problem solved!!

Just checked under the seats and nothing there. However took out the glove box and found this. It would seem that the plug is on the right of this shot and I presume this would disable it. My only worry would be it may still go off?? Any thoughts welcome.
