cobra bracing seems to merit cable bracing in every aspect. allows movment in all directions, non invasive, thickening growth. bracing seems to be condemming the tree to be depandant on the brace, and allowing the limbs to become way to large, not to mention the obvious damage with putting bolts into and through the tree.

Both systems have merits, and negatives, its just knowing the right situation and time to use them.

what situation would you choose to use bracing over cobra?

Cobra is a brand name not a style of product....

 

Also cobra is somewhat dated now with far superior products made by gefa and arboa.....

Extreamly heavy lateral limbs.

Braces that are subjected to large tempreture variations.

Braces that could be tampered with by vandels.Such as large heavy lateral limbs close to the ground.

As a lower cost option to Cobra bracing if the alternative is felling the Tree.

 

As with most machines/techniques/equipment,one approach won't cover all bases.Steel cables and or Rods and through bolts have their place.As do synthetic bracing devices.

There are courses about for this topic 8-10 sept @ Stowlangtoft ( £250 excl VAT...no assessment ) NPTC assessment £90 + vat but + reg fee £25

 

What do we know about the NPTC quals? Any good? What does it cover Ridging bracing,flex cables & rope, propping & inspection...soundz pretty interesting to me!"!

 

About that Arboa...why does he fiddle so much with the product...new materials maybe...he writes about all his patents as tho' its a good thing...god forbid he just cant get it right...no offence!!!

I heard that the Arboa people will be at the AA show, if its true its the place to ask the questions
