Im looking at buying a ropebag, but there are so many out there, just need some opinions please.

Was thinking of one of these, and possibly buying the backpack system to go with it. What are your thoughts? anyone used the sherril tree ropebags?

Rope Worker Deluxe Rope/Tool Bag

wow thats a dear bag for rope! the best i have found is thoses fully water proof bag for like caving and that kind of stuff. as they usually have a back strap to carry and fully water proof, cheap as to and very hard wearing. i bought mine for like £10 all different sizes. i suggest look on caving shops/rock climbing etc. hope that helps and saves your some pennies for beers aswell.

Horses for courses m'dearies!!

iv got a fake silver bull bag at the mo, it fits a 45m 11mm rope wiv loads of room left! it only cost a tenner and its supposed to fit a 25m rope!

i find the plasticy waterproof bags are good, but if you put a wet rope back in it, it goes all fusty as it cant breathe/dry very well, just remember to take it out and dry it proper,

the fabric bags are good for breathability, but everythin gets wet!

the sherril bags are good, we have a couple of the big kit bags which arnet the best idea, as half of your kit your not using also have to come out and get covered in muck/wet/left behind!

I really hate rope bags that are not waterproof.

I really don't see any advantage in having a water proof rope bag!

If you climb in the rain, your rope is going to get wet, and I wouldn't put a wet (or even moist) rope into a water tight bag. Within hours, it starts smelling like old socks, and fungus growth sets in within days. Obviously, you intend to take the wet rope out and dry it properly, but if you forget it's much better to have a well-ventilated rope bag.

SherrillTree used to have a mesh rope bag from Buckingham, and it's still depicted on their website, but I don't think it's available anymore...

That would be my preference.

silver bull do a nice mesh bag itll take a 60m rope no worries, i like em i reckon if its gonna rain then u can spend to much time trying to kep all your stuff dry and then it doesnt always work so id get the mesh bag and let the rope breath, personally i use either the plastic tubtrugs i think they are called they are about 15quid and give ur rope the ability to not be bunched up and then if i dont have that i have it in the base of my haul bag. i had a sherrill one but broke the rods in them but i liked the fact they have a rod in the top to keep the shape so the sides dont cave in when flecking your rope in.

waterproof!

is very handy if u work in the rain as, most of the time you dont use ur full lenght of the rope(depending on how many ropes you hav) so the rest is sat at the bottom of the tree getting soaked!

i find that these types of bags stand up straight aswell so it heaps easier to feed rope in. rather than little bit by little bit. i find if your rope gets wet best just to hang on a clothes horse after work, outside. then mite still be wet next day but after bit use will dry very fast.

the main point was, there are all different types but these having pretty much all the functions you need and cheap. so at the shops you could flick through and find the type u needed.

My point is: If half the rope is soaking wet, you have to dry it anyway, so the whole thing might as well be wet. And in a mesh bag, at least it will dry (slowly) while stored in the bag.
