I’m looking at buying a 2015 Hilux and fitting an arb tipper as a work truck (body fitted by a professional coach builder not myself).

However, as it qualifies for the chassis recall (in age anyway) my question is-does anyone have experience getting a chassis recalled if the vehicle has a tipping body or non-standard rear body? Will they replace as usual or is it a different story?

There’s a fairly nationwide Hilux chassis inspection/recall currently. 2012 to 2024 from what I’ve read, if you go on the Toyota website you can check if your vehicle is eligible.

Need to have owned it for 6 months for them to inspect it.

Once you've had it that long, if the recall is still running they will inspect and deem either it needs rubbing back and wax oiled or full replacement if its bad enough, then you wait for a date.

The full replacement will take months in the shop, they offer a truck "like for like" as a replacement but not a chip box just lockable canopy, tow bar and number of seats are relevant from what I've been told.

The respray is meant to take them a week, I've been told i'll be getting a replacement car not a truck for that week.

From what a chap with a box told me, they've said they'll do them if the box is "properly" done by a "arb tipper" fabricator with all the boxes ticked.

Sounds very much like the ford ranger scheme. The quality of the work was atrocious, underseal on top of dirt and rust, mine came back with the masking paper still rammed everywhere in the engine bay. Big promises from ford but in reality just a bodge job.

I just checked the Toyota Norway website.  I have a 2018 Hilux from new.  Norway has more salty road conditions than most of Europe.

Google says that the recall is pretty wide apart from norway.

Toyota Norway have blamed it on user maintenance.  Can you believe the arrogance?

I had a 2016 Hilux Invincible from new in the Uk and IIRC I paid 32k for it.

Sold it at a year old when I moved over here and bought a new one from Toyota Norway.

I paid over double the cost I paid in the UK.  700 plus Nok, and that was for a commercial vehicle, DC but with the back seats removed.

This country takes the piss a bit tbh.  Looking forward to when my time in these shores is up.
