Help me Id this - potential tree resin?

Apologies, I didn't provide lots of pictures originally, because, I thought it would be something that Arb enthusiasts would all know about! I thought it would be a common thing... but I have now added more pictures now. Thanks in advance for any help! 

 

I found this recently in Croxteth Park, Liverpool, UK, whilst walking my dog.

I assume that it is tree resin that has formed inside a hollow branch or trunk?

The best way to describe it would be that it looks like something from one of the Alien films

I also took a pic of the trees at the location where I found it.

I've never seen anything like it and I can't find any information on the web to help me get more information. 

I would love to know more about what it is? I would really appreciate anyone's thoughts?

 

It is about 7cm in diameter and about 17cm long. It is very light in weight. It is very fragile.

You can see the imprint and shapes of things - like potential berries or seeds?

 

I found it on the floor, in the woods. There was no indication of what or where it had come from.

There was nothing else like it in the general area.

It looks like it has been clean cut at one edge, with equipment (so perhaps from when a tree was cut)

 

Thanks for any help in advance. I have tried to research on the internet, but can't find anything. I probably don't know the correct vocab to get the relevant results?

Weird. It looks man made to me, of some description. Too shiny to be tree resin from inside a hollow branch. More like plastic resin. What does it smell like when you cut or abrade it?

thanks for the ideas - it doesn't seem man-made to me, it smells natural rather than chemically...I've added more pics if that helps
