I reckon with mine that so long as you aren't cutting anything too thick then battery will be as quick as petrol.... but as soon as you start approaching the maximum specified bar length the petrol saw comes out on top.

Mine is a Qualcast (36V) - cannot get them now, Homebase did them on offer about 10 years ago, from near £180 down to £80, so was worth a punt at the time, and hasn't really missed a beat doing the firewood since then

Bargain. Be silly not to at that price.

I still love my MSA200, great saw. I wouldn’t want to be using it as the primary firewood saw though, you don't get a very long life out of the little 1/4" 1.1mm chain. Tiny wee teeth, and every stroke of the file makes the kerf that little bit tighter... a chain that's seen a few sharpening cycles just doesn't chew through thicker wood like a newer chain does, it bogs down easier. Can be frustrating on dismantles, it hastens the transition from battery to petrol.

The old (but sharpened...) chain will still go through skinny stuff though, so you then get a few more goes using an old chain for hedges or by the chipper, or an emergency backup chain.

All that said... when I get around to building the woodshed, I'm going corded electric saw
