Hi.

I was looking for many hours online for log length logs near Cambridge area, England. All I can ever find is split logs, it's infuriating.

I inquired with a couple of arbourists, but they never got back to me. I inquired with some split log providers, but they don't sell whole logs.

So I was wondering if any of you lot had ordered any. If so, where from, how much was it, and does it have to be an artic trailer? I have the land, but access for a trailer isn't doable, but 7-15 tonne trucks have gotten down here, so I fear that could hinder me if I did find a supplier.

Put your details into the tip sites above, you might get some success there,.

Enquired with a couple of arborists, might be worth following up with a phone call or looking to see who is the most local to you.

Remembering in both cases that local firms might have arrangements in place for their 'waste', so might not be successful, also note that everyone wants logs at the moment, you could be on the list to contact but be near the bottom of the list.

Might be that you keep an ear open for the sound of chainsaws - a friendly face enquiring has get me the best results generally rather than an anonymous e-mail. Obviously pick your time to ask, not when they are half way up a tree for example.

Don't be picky what you ask for. Oak logs are never going to happen, everyone wants oak, but if you are happy with softwoods that no one wants you might get lucky too.

So for me I had a word with some local land owners, local tree surgeons and the odd email and that does me OK.

There's literally tonnes of logs and branches in huge piles around here, as lots of farmers have had trees removed before the end of March. Apparently they can't cut down trees after march, or it's a lot of trouble, due to bird nesting season. So lots of companies have gone around butchering trees, taking the big logs and just piling everything else up in mounds and leaving it.

But there's no way to contact the farmers or landowners, and I'm not going to trespass, it's not worth the risk or hassle.

I am on a couple of tip site websites, but im in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by farms, so that could either be jackpot results or none, ever.

I hear chainsaws sometimes, but again, it's always on private land and there's no way to contact them. There's so much wood I see around here, but it's all on private property with no signs of the owner or how to contact them.

I can get some small amounts of wood for free if I go scavenging, but it's a lot of work as it's in a wooded area and everything needs to be wheelbarrowed out 100+ metres to the car or van. I was just after a one off, large log drop so I could get 1-2 years worth cut, split and stacked soon. But I've no idea how much it'd be for 10-20+ tonnes. The arbourists I did contact about it, who sell split wood of their own, told me to email, but no reply. So it's probably not something they're very keen on doing, as split wood is their main thing.

I've seen the local farmer once in about 4 years here. I do like how quiet it is here, but it makes it very difficult to actually bump into the farmers or landowners!

You need to order some " cord wood " . That's cord wood not cod wood or anything to do with fish 🙂

Tried that. Tried log length logs. Tried a few things, but all that come up is websites leading to Split logs 🙁. It's annoying.

If you have farmers around you and piles of wood about like you are saying, just knock on some doors or stop the next tractor you see and ask, the answer maybe yes, or no. Then you know.
