What is required for communication? I see there are various cheapy bluetooth ear defenders about, and I was told that motorcycle headset units work well. Do these motorcycle things handle the communication to another device or is a phone required?

I picked up one of the cheapies, but I suspect it wont communicate to other headsets etc without a phone/app being involved, or not at all. For music it appears to work well.

Which motorcycle ones are best? Are they all compatable with each other?

Cheapy was from Lidl. I expect the range is too short for anything but phone/music. Even so, there an improvment over my old chipper hat defenders. I did buy some 3M X5A's but they are lost..IMG_20250318_175529.thumb.jpg.72902695a3491b6850d6ad82f02d7756.jpg

Don't know answer to either question. You can find mine in old posts on here though.

"bluetooth" AND "AHPP" site:arbtalk.co.uk or something like that.

I misread your post btw. I thought we were talking about motorcycle intercoms. I doubt those work as comms. They're probably just for music from your phone, maybe phone calls. Either way, they're not in a helmet.

I’ve got motorcycle comms kit in my Protos. Works well and connects with several others. Doesn’t need a phone app as it’s a stand alone unit, but does connect to phone to take calls and listen to music. Also has its own FM radio built in.
