Plus remember you'll only get full speed on new equipment or via ethernet.

Almost all older WiFi stuff is physically limited to 54mb tho. Whilst a faster connection will allow more people to use it simultaneously, it's more aimed at streaming TV & online games.

i am on fiber makes no difference to the speed that was by wire, it has been on the wooden pole for about a year they brought the new cable to the house then down to a junction box then into the house

This doesn't sound right?  Going from copper wire to fibreoptic cable will definitely increase your maximum potential speed. Keep bashing away at the Openreach and your ISP.  Find out exactly what connection you have, what speed you are paying for and what you are getting. Do you have modern equipment within your house?  Changing ISP is a good way to get a new router and the new 'mesh' equipment for bouncing the wifif around the house is great.  Use ethernet cables if your house is massive.

As above, totally agree

Without going into a debate about line speeds etc.

It's not about line speeds but the network behind it, old days copper went from your house to the exchange where it connected to the ISP.

Now it's to the end of your road and they can sell off the exchange building as it's a fibre node network structure.

Think mobile phone masts talking with each other in a game of pass the data parcels.

I was building electronics back in the early days of BT 21CN equipment, by 2007 BT were having a fire sale on building as it emptied 80% of the copper cables from an exchange.

True.

I left in 2005 and have recently gone back.
Now on a project to rationalise copper customers. Yes, the long game will be to have empty or emptier buildings. Due to complete in 2027, which could be a tad overoptimistic.

Lets see,

p.s. I'm NOT Openreach :-)

Overoptimistic might be something of an understatement.

I often wonder in built up areas why they don't have a share agreement with virgin to share conduits and cabinets.

As someone in the know, how does this hung fibre stand up to the environment?, as where I am they just don't seem bothered about burying a new trunk line and saving the cost of poles.

I'm O/H fed for fibre.

Cable looks as robust as the old copper coated steel dropwire.

Also thinking of the abuse the ruggedised patch leads that I used for years. I think it'll do ok. Especially as it won't be impacted by water ingress.

Branches across them, might be a whole new kettle of fish. Wire had a bit of stretch to it, glass not so much.

Minds greater than mine have made the decision to go that direction. Hoping for my pensions sake they haven't farked up.
