I've only ever owned one climbing rope (for trees at least, I've had all sorts for rock) it was on offer when I bought it which was the only deciding factor.

How does the New England Tachyon 11.1mm stand in the grand scheme of things? Still got a bit of life left in it, but the spliced end is getting a bit tatty and the other end has been trimmed a bit. What could I upgrade to if I stumble on a decent deal?

Tachyon is bouncy as a ball when used SRT.

decent hard wearing rope but there are better out there IME.  I still have some I use for scabby Spruce or Pine but I am rarely ascending in the rope.  Usually spikes and the rope is second anchor or as a means to get out of dodge should it be needed.

I would get the courant Squire.  Used to be 100 quid ish for 60 m.

Understood, thanks for that.

Yeah, too much bounce if weighting and unweighting could be annoying all right. It's not been an issue so far because I've nothing to compare it to, you see!

I'll keep my eyes open for something more static.

I have a couple of zero stretch (not literally but you get the point) ropes and they are nice to climb on but you wouldn’t want to take a drop using it.

The Courant Squire has a bit of stretch but not that noticeable unless you are using most of the line.  Mine is 60m so a 28 plus metre tree with a base tie.

Plenty of decent ropes out there but I like the feel of the Courant.  I recently spiked mine on a large dismantle so have cut it out.

I will be buying another due to the cost.

No, you wouldn't!  We use a zero stretch 6mm aramid cord for building anchors (mountain rescue, not arb), it's a great bit of kit but has to be used cleverly or you'll have a bad time.

Might add a length of Squire to my wishlist then, it's good to share the load on some bits of kit anyway to extend the service life of both old and new.

Courant seem to be the way forward at the moment. If you want a splice, Squire isn't the one for you as it can't be. Another to look at is Teufelberger X-static, again it's unspliceable.
