Discovery apple tree

Hi I have a discovery apple tree in a large pot, it's my first year for fruiting. This apple is supposedly ready mid August but it was late September when I picked the few it had on due to them not coming off the tree easily in August. They were quite tarty and had a green tinge as I peeled them. Could this be due to its first year of fruiting. I fed it seaweed feed during the growing season.

Not sure what they are, maybe a red sport of James Grieve from the appearance and description but only a guess.

They are definitely not Discovery.

Doesn't really sound like Discovery to me.  Have you photos of the apples?

When you say green tinge, is this as well as the pinkish flesh you'd hope to see in a Discovery... or instead of?

 

Could you show us a photo of the graft, as if there's no display of pink at all the graft could quite well have failed, and you are just growing the rootstock fruit instead...

Doesn't sound right. Discovery is always the first edible apple of the year, even when young and delicious.

Hi, no they didn't have the pinky flesh. My biggest weighed over half a pound and they are supposed to be a smallish apple. I was wondering if it's like this with it being it's first fruiting year.

This photo was taken before August this year. They were really red when they came off the tree.

Hm, they don't really look right do they. Where did you buy it?

 

I'd say the tree was mislabelled.
