Climbing boots recommendations.

Hi all.

After many years of being ground based I've got round to booking on to cs38 and cs39.

With that in mind could anyone recommend some decent climbing boots? and do they also need to be chainsaw rated for climbing?

I'm used to wearing forestry wellies so anything will be an improvement.

Hopefully something that wont break the bank?!?

any input would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Paulie.

If you're using a chainsaw they'll need to be protective boots.

As for which, it's subjective really, cheap ones I had were Treehog, they lasted a year. Best approach is go to a dealer and try them on. Most important point I think when looking is a deep heel, you want a ledge for spikes to sit in when you're wearing them.

Unfortunately you get what you pay for as a rule. I would recommend avoiding boots that don't have a Vibram sole, unless you know they have a good reputation. I used Haix for years, then changed to Meindl as I felt they had a better heel ledge, as Doug says. They were great until Meindl ditched the Vibram sole and whatevever they were using instead only lasts a year before the layers start to delaminate. I am currently using Arbortec Scafell Lite and find them really comfortable. One of my team drags his feet a lot, and the Scafell Lite have coped well with this.

Thanks gents. Ill look in to Scafell light. I'm not sure where a chainsaw gear shop is around my neck of the woods (south Lakes) so may have to be an online purchase. Do Scafell boots fit true to size or run big or small?

I have the Fitwell Chop boots, they’re a protective chainsaw boot that is slightly lighter for climbing. So far they’ve been great, light and comfy and they’ve lasted well thus far having done a winter and 5/6 days a week every week.
