The other thing I do which people think weird at first is use a 10m lanyard, but set up with pinto pulley and VT hitch so it spends as more time as a second climbing system than lanyard really. This means I'm on 2 climbing systems a lot of the time but without dragging 3 ropes around.

I used an 8m bit of three strand for that for years. Very handy. Double lanyard for flipping past branches, mini second system, butt keeper rigging, tagline, saw collection and temporary strop. Now using 15m ish of some climbing rope, usually on my bridge now though.

I have a 5, 10, 20, 25, 30 & 60m rope along with my little side strop and pick the appropriate one or two for the tree size. Minimal excess rope on the ground is the aim for me
