Bowls for rounds

Recommended Posts

Hi.

Been reading the forum for a while and enjoy the banter, well most of the time and now ready to have the piss taken out of me for this.

I'm a hobby woodturner and also have a stove, so no mistakes just round firewood.

I'm not looking to make money from turning as feel it would be futile but though it might be possible to swap bowls/other turned things for wood for both turning and burning. Ideal scenario would be tree surgeons offering bowls etc from a tree that has some sentimental value and charging client more for this. Then leave the wood with me and Id turn what I like, send on the bowl and burn the rest.

Does this sound reasonable? Think it might not be as a pain to be reliant on someone else etc and potentially many other reasons I've not thought of.

Any thoughts welcome.

Thanks

Some of the Bandsaw milling I do comes from Customers wanting their blown tree's repurposed.

Is there a flow of £££ notes? That might complicate things.

If not, the tree surgeon might be able to add something to the job, a unique selling point to win it by adding in the bowl for free, you get the firewood for your time turning the bowl - but if you enjoy turning then that is firewood for free really? Only so many bowls you can make and keep in the house so got to get rid of some eventually. Customer get a free bowl from the tree,

Might need you to knock on a few tree surgeons doors to get one willing to work along with you

The bandsaw milling looks amazing. Some beautiful grain.

I'm not looking for a for anything other than a supply of wood. Like you say there are only so many bowls you can have in the house and I like making them.

Time to get my finger out and knock on some doors.
