GM 2.2 diesel EGR valve

Got this lump in our 2005 Saab 9-5; went bang spectacularly this morning with nice burning smells and such like. Management light on, very hot turbo (hotter than normal), in limp-home mode for rest of journey - thankfully only a few miles, but limited to 1800 rpm and what felt like hardly any power at all. Crawled up a medium hill in first at 5mph! :blushing: I'm hoping it's just the notorious EGR valve - whip it out and clean etc, otherwise it's goodbye car as it's our first Saab and will be be our last - not impressed really.

Family car replacements - considering the following:

1) Vectra V6 CDti

2) 9-5 3.0 Tid (same engine as above but more troublesome pre 2004)

3) Passat V6 TDI

Utterly bored of 4 cylinder engines hence the above - any other suggestions for a 6 cylinder diesel???
