Nice work shame its from hazel not chesnut though  for durability......

 

 

I did a continious weave fence from hazel id planted  lasted about 3yrs  but had the bark still on,  I think  bark traps moisture &  makes it rot  faster. The  stripped stuff may last abit longer....

 

Chesnut pailing on the other hand has lasted  well over a decade.

Same here I have  tried some & it hates waterlogged clay .

 

& for some reason no chesnut coppices in the north either maybe doesn't like  colder weather not sure as see  some   SC   trees doing fine & thriving, on "better" soils.

 

So i think it would do fine in the north generallly  but  just on different soil.
