Do I have to finish my sculpture all in one go?

Hi folks. Newby and amateur here. We have a small (1.5 acre) slice of heaven with about 80 trees on it. Mostly beech and poplar but some oak etc. We have some tall stumps (3-4 ft) from removed trees. I'm itching to learn carving. I grew up seeing a lot of it. Love it.

I've read a bunch online, YouTubed, read a couple intro books and even watched that Netflix show, but here's a question I can't find an answer to.

How long do I have to complete my sculpture? I'm sure it depends on weather, wood etc. First one will be in oak. Red oak I think. If I start it, drop it for a couple months for time conflicts, etc. am I alright? Or am I asking for trouble? Thanks for any perspective. Hoping I can make time to get into this and not have to wait 20 years for retirement :)

Hi if you can build youself a lean too ,to work under it will keep the sun off the carving until you can finish it but it is best to finish it asap before you loose your way with it

Thanks! That's really good advice. Life getting in the way of projects...never!? :)
