Husqvarna 550xpg missing screw - does it matter?

Hi all - I've just noticed a missing screw on my 550, it's on the cylinder assembly. Photo attached. I've tried to find a replacement screw but there isn't one listed on the parts diagrams I got from L&S. Just wondering whether it matters? I'm not sure what that part is that the screws are holding on, so I don't want to keep running it if there's a chance I could be introducing an air leak or anything.

Do any of those other screws fit? You can get special "security" bits for the star shaped one on the right.  If yes, measure it or take it to a dealer and they'll have one.

That looks like a transfer cover so yes, it does matter and quite a bit as you may get an air leak in the engine if left.

When you replace it, you may not be able to get the exact same type of security screw but be damn careful to fit a screw the correct length as if it is too long, you may punch a dent in to the cylinder. Check the depth with a vernier or simply a small screw driver and knock 3-4mm off for safety...you have been warned!

Thanks both - yes, that was what I was worried about. Good to know. I'll hold off using the saw until I get the replacement screw then. I don't have the right security bit driver yet, so I'll get one and try the other screws for size. Good tip on the length of screw!

 

I've tried L&S for a replacement but they've not been much help which is unusual.

The screws are not available as a spare part as they are not supposed to be removed, I may have a scrap cylinder to take one from if it helps.

Yes not only is it important as its part of the saw ,, but in this job you must have a screw lose but as you seem to have lost your lose screw you cant be in the club sorry bye bye.😁

Stick an Allen bolt in it with the correct thread, the head pattern doesn't matter.
