There can be many reasons for this - slight to major flooding, poor compression, spark plug tracking, carb faulty, fuel line split etc etc....lets see what tomorrow gives. ADW may have to change his username!

I do hope it just fires up and away it goes, but with a drop of fuel down the inlet, and a spark it really should have at least popped, but please prove me wrong by telling us she is running tomorrow.

Wd40 didn’t get it to fire and neither has fuel down the spark plug hole. This is what initially lead me to looking at the coil, which does produce spark. I’ll take the fly wheel off to make sure the keys aren’t shafted.  I’m not a small engine specialist but I am a welder with a sound knowledge of basic mechanical principles, hence the reason for my questions on this forum. The previous two saws I’ve rebuilt run well, it’s just the lack of even a fart of a start that has got me puzzled. I’ve tried two different plugs also.

Have you tried a brand new plug out of a box with a name we'd trust ?

Been there with plugs that would work in other machines and when out (checking for a spark held against the engine) but not in place 🤭
